Meet Amy Simon, Director of Events for AEG Presents at the Theater at Grand Prairie

Social distancing and being apart from family and friends is tough enough for most people during this current environment, but for someone in the meeting planning industry, it is even more of a challenge since most everyone in this business is a people person. Such is the case for Amy Simon.

Simon, who is the Director of Events for AEG Presents at the Theater at Grand Prairie, has really missed her co-workers, clients and event team members during the last several months working at home.

“I’m pretty extraverted. (Not being around people) has really been a blow to my persona.” said Simon, who has been with AEG for over five years. “My favorite part is all of the people I get to meet, the clients and the relationships I’ve built. I miss it a lot.”

While at Texas A&M, Simon worked at the Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater in College Station where she learned about concert promotion and discovered her passion for live events. Simon majored in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Sciences (RPTS) and minored in Business Administration.

“The major was really cool,” Simon said. “We had a lot of outside-the-school, real-world experiences and case studies. I really enjoyed my major.”

Following graduation and after working for two years at Dave and Busters, both at the world headquarters and in Arlington selling corporate and social parties, Simon moved over to AEG where she has been able to scratch that live-event itch.

“Seeing an event unfold from start to finish and knowing how much work goes into it,” expressed Simon. “It is really cool to be a part of that. The energy (of a live event)…there is nothing like it.”

In the meantime, Simon says her AEG family has stayed in touch and help make the time away from people a little more bearable. “There is a person who does what I do in every AEG Presents-operated venue. And especially during this CO-VID(19) time we are staying in close contact with each other almost daily. I have been thankful for that.”

Another aspect of this industry she enjoys is her involvement with PCMA. Simon has been a member and volunteer with PCMA and the Gulf States Chapter for over two years and is currently studying for her CMP certification.

“PCMA has been my favorite organization to get involved with,” said Simon who is a on the communications committee working with social media. “I love all their programming and education.”

Nevertheless, it is the people she works with on the live events that she can’t wait to get back to. “No two days are ever alike,” Simon said. “I love the variety. It is always a new adventure. I never want to stop learning.”
